Meet Parvin Kumar, the talented chef and co-owner of Soami’s Trio in Consett, whose culinary journey has taken him from India to the UK, blending flavours and cultures along the way. Parvin began his career training at the prestigious Oberoi Hotels in India, where he honed his skills before moving to the UK in 2003. Here, he worked at a series of notable restaurants, including Spice Cube and Sachin’s in Newcastle and Haveli in Darras Hall, before opening his own restaurant.
In 2021, Parvin and his wife, Rohini, established Soami’s Trio. Since then, their restaurant has attracted a loyal following, with diners travelling from across the region. Even BBC chef Si King of the Hairy Bikers has visited, a testament to Parvin’s culinary excellence. The accolades have poured in too, with TripAdvisor’s ‘Traveller’s Choice Award’ in 2023 and 2024, the Good Food Award for consecutive years, and the prestigious British Curry Award. Soami’s Trio also won Fusion Restaurant of the Year at the LTG Prestige Awards 2022 and has been nominated again for 2025.
