Malcolm Agnew exactly totally agree 👍
Consett had a great pub scene then witherspoons came along and instead of enjoying the individual pubs and their own appeals people choose to drink in witherspoon and a large amount of pubs got put out of business however if drinking in and old cow shed with no soul and full of people who obviously don’t need to go to work is for you it’s the place to go
It’s not in the heart of County Durham, it’s on its North Western edge.
The Whistle Blower during the day is full of folk who either wont work, cant work , and by 5pm, cant speak and cant walk.
The Turf is okay if you like Rock music on a Saturday night with a clip round the lug.
The Grey Horse is a quality boozer with good beer if somewhat a tad small and with cliquey clientele.
The Freemasons is cult horrorshow full of headcases looking for somewhere to drink til 3am Saturday morning in a building that hasnt had a change of decor since 1945 and is a dead ringer for the 1980 Vincent Price horror film ‘The Monster Club’.
Wetherspoons – soulless atmosphere vaccum full of career dole wallers and women in dresses like theyre going to the races after getting sloshed on prosecco.
The Black Horse – known locally as ‘The Crack Horse’ – enough said.
I cant be bothered to go on.
Bazza Davison prity much hit the nail on the head there like 👌

This article must be about a Consett in an alernative universe.. it certainly doesn’t reflect the real place, which is utterly grim and not worth spending 5 minutes in.
