The thing I like about our country,
Is how we love to queue,
In the supermarket, on the bus stand,
And always for the loo.
We stand proudly in a long line,
At the restaurant and the bar,
Wait patiently behind the wheel,
When we want to park the car.
Sitting calmly with our mobile phone,
When we are ‘caller number four,’
We column at the cash machine,
When the queue is out the door.
We file into church on Sundays,
To get in, and then get out,
We stand in line for communion
Which makes us look devout.
Queuing – our national pastime,
We do it all with etiquette,
Waiting one behind the other
Showing the ultimate respect.
There may not be much else we can –
embrace or celebrate,
Yet queuing sets us right apart,
From the rest of the human race.
