The September 2026 edition of Consett Magazine has arrived, bringing together another collection of local stories, community voices, history and reporting from Consett, Lanchester, Ebchester and the wider DH8 area.
This month’s front cover takes us to Langpark, where the Bradley family have farmed the land around Lanchester for almost 60 years and are now passing the herd to a third generation.
The cover story and photography are by George Ledger as part of the continuing Communities in Focus project.

MP Backs the Biggest Mental Health Redesign in a Generation
Liz Twist, MP for Blaydon and Consett, has backed Government plans for 159 new NHS mental health facilities, including 100 community centres offering walk-in support without a referral.
A New Directory of Local Support
Durham County Council has launched Connecting County Durham, an online directory of local organisations, activities and support services. Registration is free for organisations.
£100,000 for Local Projects
Grants of £5,000 to £10,000 are open to not-for-profit organisations through the Local Network Fund. Applications close at 5pm on Wednesday 30 September.

📜 History
What a Postcard Revealed
Paul Heatherington bought a postcard of Muggleswick Church, posted from Castleside on 8 August 1913. It led him to Joseph Thompson Maddison of Weardale, killed in action on 28 September 1918, six weeks before the Armistice.
