St. Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in Consett is preparing to mark a significant milestone as the junior part of the school turns 100 years old on 13th April 2025. To commemorate this historic occasion, the school is hosting a centenary celebration on Saturday, 12th April 2025, from 10 AM to 12 PM.

The event welcomes all members of the community, with a special invitation extended to former staff and pupils. It promises to be a nostalgic gathering, bringing together generations who have passed through the school’s doors over the past century.

In preparation for the celebration, St. Patrick’s is reaching out to the community for contributions. They are keen to collect photographs, stories, and memorabilia related to the school’s rich history. The school has offered to photocopy any items on-site, ensuring that precious memories can be shared while original keepsakes remain with their owners.

The excitement for this milestone is palpable among the current students. Joey Charlton, Head Boy, expressed his awe at being part of such a longstanding institution, stating, “I can’t believe our school is going to be 100 years old, we are a piece of history.” Head Girl Pippa Hodge shared her enthusiasm, noting, “It is exciting to learn about the past and be part of such a special occasion.”

The sentiment is echoed by staff members, including those with a personal connection to the school. One staff member, who is also a former pupil, highlighted the school’s central role in the community: “This school is at the heart of Consett and so many community members have fond memories of our school. It is going to be a fabulous event.”

This centenary celebration not only honors St. Patrick’s enduring presence in Consett but also serves as a testament to the school’s significant role in shaping the local community over the past hundred years.
