Our Vision and Values
At Bishop Ian Ramsey Church of England Primary School, our vision is to provide excellent education in a caring community that enables everyone to ‘Shine as a Light in the World’ (Philippians 2:15).
We are a Church of England school, founded on strong Christian values, which are at the heart of our daily life as a school. Our core Christian values of trust, respect, compassion and hope provide a firm foundation for a secure, caring and happy environment, where every unique member of our school family is encouraged to ‘shine their light’; using their gifts to the full to help others, to flourish in school and beyond, and to engage in life in all its fullness.
Our curriculum, wider personal development offer, relationships with families and partnerships with the local church and community are rooted in this set of values. We encourage and support all children to be happy, active and independent learners, to develop as individuals who respect themselves and others, with strong foundations that will enable them to continue to grow as good citizens and to ‘shine as lights in the world’; using their gifts to the full to help others.

Our curriculum
Pupils at our school receive a broad and balanced curriculum, which reflects our local context. We have constructed a curriculum that is ambitious and inclusive, ensuring we address key learning in knowledge and skills. Our curriculum is coherently planned and carefully sequenced, providing pupils with subject-specific knowledge which builds over time and is appropriate to their age group.
In the core curriculum (English, Maths, Science and RE), teachers have strong subject knowledge and present subject matter clearly to pupils. In the foundation subjects (History, Geography, Art etc), pupils develop their knowledge and skills through exciting, stimulating topics. These often involve visits and visitors to enhance the pupils’ learning and to help bring the curriculum to life.
Teachers recognise the need to revisit and recap and this is embedded practice at our school. They identify misconceptions accurately and provide clear feedback to check understanding and inform the next steps of teaching. Our curriculum has been constructed to allow pupils to remember and use the content they have been taught, building what we call their ‘sticky knowledge’ throughout their learning journey. Teachers use a multi-faceted approach within their classroom environment; selecting materials that enhance and support the coherently planned, carefully sequenced curriculum.

Outcomes
We are very proud of our recent results for 2024, which show that our pupils achieve above the National Average across all core areas of Reading, Writing and Maths. These results show that our rigorous approach to teaching and learning is very successful and that this has a clear and positive impact – ensuring that our pupils are ready for their next stage of learning.
