For years, the team at Firefly New Media watched as so-called “local” news became a collection of gloomy headlines, high advertising costs, and corporate media agendas, with little connection to Consett. It felt like our town’s stories were losing their authentic voice, drowned out by negativity. So, we launched Consett Magazine—a platform dedicated to showcasing the authentic spirit of Consett; a place to celebrate the positive events and stories that shape our community.
The idea for Consett Magazine was born from a desire to fill a gap in local media—a need for a publication dedicated to positive, uplifting stories and the achievements of local people, businesses, and community projects. Our first issue hit the stands in August 2012, and since then, the magazine has grown into a beloved monthly publication, now reaching Issue 145. We’re free, available monthly in print, and updated daily on consettmagazine.com.
Supported by local advertisers who share our commitment to celebrating Consett, the magazine highlights the stories, photographs, and history that define our community. Publishing local writers and photographers, we hope each issue reflects the true voice of Consett.
We’re also incredibly grateful for the community’s ongoing support and extend a special thank you to everyone who has warmly welcomed our newest team member, Mirrin Alexander. Since joining last month, Mirrin has been out and about, connecting with local businesses and gathering stories that resonate. She’s here to help amplify your voice in 2025—whether through a business feature starting at just £99 or a story that showcases what makes Consett truly unique.

Much appreciated. 👍
