Two dedicated community groups are helping to make a significant difference for patients and families supported by Willow Burn Hospice, demonstrating the extraordinary impact that local fundraising can achieve.
The Rotary Club of Consett has supported Willow Burn for many years and continues to play an important role in helping the hospice provide care and support across the region. Its most recent Charity Golf Day, held at South Moor Golf Club, brought together 35 teams and raised an impressive £2,000 for the hospice. The Rotarians also contributed towards the hospice’s illustrated picture book earlier in the year, a project designed to support bereaved children and families.

Another group making an extraordinary contribution is the Consett Sunderland AFC Supporters Association. During the 2025/26 season, members raised an incredible £10,000 for Willow Burn Hospice, enough to fund a full-time palliative care nurse for 13 weeks.
This latest donation adds to an outstanding fundraising legacy. Over the past 12 years, the association has raised a remarkable £73,269.66 for the hospice, reflecting the dedication, loyalty and generosity of its members and supporters.

While their fundraising activities may be very different, both organisations share a common goal: supporting local people when they need it most. Their efforts help Willow Burn to continue to provide palliative and end-of-life care, while also offering practical and emotional support to patients and their loved ones.
The achievements of the Rotary Club of Consett and Consett Sunderland AFC Supporters Association are a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when community groups get behind a local cause. Through their commitment and generosity, both organisations are helping Willow Burn continue to make a difference every day.
