Consett Swimming Club

Whether you are a recreational swimmer or a budding Olympian, swimming is a great skill to learn and can be done by most people throughout their life. It not only improves endurance, muscle strength and overall fitness it can also reduce stress levels and occurrences of depression and anxiety. There are many clubs around the country with a few in our region, including Consett Swimming Club based at Consett Leisure Centre. The club was first registered with the Amateur Swimming Association in 1963 and is run entirely by volunteers. Over the years it has nurtured numerous talented swimmers who have received remarkable success at regional, national and international level. Further information about the Club and membership can be found on their website.

Consett Cricket Club

The British summer is built around the sound of leather (cricket ball) whacking against willow (cricket bat)”. Consett Cricket Club is one of the many teams we have in our area. They have two senior teams playing in the Northumberland and Tyneside Cricket League as well as having a Sunday team in the Hetton Lyons Sunday Cricket League. They also have under 9, under 11 and under 13 sides at present, attract 60+ children to the annual ECB All Stars programme and have 20 girls signed to the ECB Dynamos course. The club is always happy to welcome new members to the club of any ability at both senior and junior levels.

Castleside Motorcycle Trials Club

They meet at Castleside Club and hold a number of trials throughout the year in quarries and over moorland across our area and attract riders from all over the Northeast. Motorcycle trials is the simplest and safest form of motorcycle sport in which everybody can compete. However, this doesn’t mean it’s easy – far from it as it’s a very technical and really tests the riders ability to actually ride their bike.
