Consett Golf Club – By Chris Bruce
Consett and District Golf Club has been in existence for more that 110 years. The course, set in 100 acres of the Derwent Valley, must be one of the most scenic in the country. On the day our photographer was there the members were having an informal sweep competition and the Seniors were playing a match against Beamish Golf Club. There is also a professional at the club offering lessons, advice and running the golf shop.
Working Equatations – By George Ledger
Working Equitation is a sport that many people will not have heard of but is a Equine sport gaining in popularity which combines traditional field work with classical training. We are lucky in the area to have a top class training organisation – ‘North East Working Equitation Training‘, which is a partnership between Vivien Whitfield and Caroline Howlett, both compete with their own horses in Regional and National competitions, and while Vivien is on the Judges pathway, Caroline has focussed on her coaching training.
Derwent Reservoir – Triathalon – By David Leck
A triathlon is an endurance multisport race consisting of swimming, cycling, and running.
Wild Deer Events organised a triathlon at the Derwent Reservoir recently. There were two race distances on offer, a sprint event involving a 750m swim, 20km bike ride and a 5km run or the standard length of 1500m, 40km and 10km. The weather was a bit harsh, especially for the swim, but, if they had time to look, the scenery was magnificent. There was a large turn out of competitors ranging from GB athletes to first timers. For such a complex event it was extremely well organised and everyone had a great day. RESULTS
