We met the fire cadets at this year’s Remembrance Day Parade and were invited to photograph one of their training sessions at Consett Fire Station.
The cadets can start at 13 and their trainers are all experienced firefighters. They learn everything a qualified firefighter would do except putting out fires. This includes using breathing apparatus, learning ladder skills, and conducting searches in complete darkness around the station.
Not only is this great fun but it is a good way for them to understand the skills involved and gives them an advantage if they would like a career in the Fire and Rescue Service. These training sessions are on Wednesdays between 6 and 8.30.
