The British Commonwealth was once the biggest and most expansive empire which the globe has ever seen. Stretching across the world as far as New Zealand and Canada, the British Empire no longer exists but a relationship between the nations still holds strong. A diverse community of nations with an abundance of culture, the Commonwealth should be celebrated for a number of reasons.
Although Commonwealth Day is internationally recognised it is not a public holiday and rarely celebrated. We should embrace the rich cultural diversity of the Commonwealth and everything it has to offer.
With countries like Jamaica, India and Australia involved in the Commonwealth why not learn something new about the fellow nations on the 11th which is Commonwealth Day. With the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow next year there’s never been a better time to get interested in the importance of the Commonwealth.
