With the 2015 Newcastle Film and Comic Con having completed it’s second successful show at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, perhaps a brief look at what was certainly a very popular aspect of the event is worth looking at.
Other than the celebrity appearances, the world of Cosplay was on display in greater numbers than last year and there were even talks on the growing phenomenon.
Cosplay, or costumed-players, is incredibly popular in US, Japan and German conventions and, at some of them, it has become a major themed part of the event and there are even dedicated Cosplay conventions as well.

Cosplay is defined as “the art or practice of wearing costumes to portray characters from fiction, especially from Manga, animation, and science fiction”. With claims of it having originated in Japan, America or Asia, Whatever, in a matter of a few years it has become an extremely popular activity and, as far as business is concerned, a booming industry worth several billions worldwide.

The proliferation of it at the Showmaster’s event in Newcastle proved the increasing popularity of the activity with fans and participants dressing up Manga inspired characters, superheroes, characters from Star Wars, Star Trek and Game of Thrones to name but a few.
So many of those looking forward to the 2016 event secretly revealed that next years hot characters will be Wonder Woman, Supergirl and the female Thor. With some already admitting to creating their costumes already.
